Moyers Corners Thanks Wegmans!!!!

The firefighters of Moyers Corners Fire Department would like to thank the corporation management of Wegman's Grocery Stores, Inc. for a very valuable and rare opportunity for training in a commercial structure.

Through the kindness of their hearts and a steadfast dedication to the fire service, the directors of Wegman's allowed the Moyers Corners Fire Department to use the vacated Ames store next to their John Glenn Blvd. store for training. The Ames store is slated for demolition in order to make way for a new, expanded Wegman's store on that site.

By allowing the department to use this store, Wegman's enabled firefighters to experience the complexities of firefighting operations in a large commercial structure. The department practiced forcible entry, extended hose lays and the ventilation techniques for the 'built up roof' types common to most of our commercial structures.

The capability to perform such training operations in a 'real-life' environment is almost unheard of, but has provided our firefighters a wealth of experience and lessons learned which will greatly improve our ability to fight fires in large commercial structures.
