Boatwatch Circle Structure Fire

Boatwatch Circle Structure Fire
Mar 27, 2007 - 05:32 pm

On Sunday March 25th at approximately 1915 hours, the Moyers Corners Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Boatwatch Circle in the Battalion One response area. Initial reports indicated that there was heavy smoke and active fire evident from the rear of the townhouse. Car 3 (Neuman) arrived first, assumed initial command, confirmed the initial reports, and held with a 'signal 98 for now'. Car 1 (Bressette) arrived second and assumed interior sector operations. Engine 41 (Lt. Zaferakis) was first due, bringing in the plug and pulling a 1 3/4" line to the number two floor. Engine 11 (Lt. Klem) arrived second and backed up Engine 41's crew with a 2" line. The attack crews were met with heavy fire on the second floor, and relayed that to Command. A signal 99 was now struck. Rescue 4 (FF Zaferakis) met up with the attack crews, completed a primary search and assisted with overhaul. As crews were attacking fire in the bedroom, bathroom, and common hallway, Ladder 1 (Capt. Fedorich) and Truck 2 (FF Rowland) combined for a collective laddering and utilities effort. Rescue 3 (Lt. Brown) covered the RIT assignment. Battalion 3 (Chura) was the third chief on scene and assisted in the command post. Battalion 2 (Race) was the fourth chief on scene and assumed the safety officer role. The fire was contained to the room of origin and the attached bathroom, taking approximately 30 minutes to extinguish. A well coordinated attack contributed to stopping any spread of fire. Crews remained on the scene until 2330 as the task of overhaul was cumbersome due to the deplorable conditions found inside the structure. The Red Cross assisted with finding the resident (who escaped uninjured) a place after the fire.

Other crews assisting on the scene:
Engine 21
Engine 31
