Passing of Chief Edwin Viel

Passing of Chief Edwin Viel
Jan 09, 2009 - 09:27 am
It is with our sincerest regrets that we announce the passing of Past Chief Edwin Viel. Chief  Viel joined the Moyers Corners Fire Department in 1960. He was a member of the original Station 2, located where McDonald's is now in Wegman's Plaza on Route 57. In 1962,  Mr. Viel was named Chief Engineer at Station 2, the first time this position was created in the department. He was an active member for many years following until he was voted in to the illustrious position of Department Chief. Chief Viel served in that capacity from 1972 – 1979. Additionally Chief Viel served as the Fire Marshal for the Town of Clay for many years. The members of the Moyers Corners Fire Department would like to extend their deepest sympathies to the Viel Family, and extend their deepest appreciation for Mr. Viel's dedication, service, and contribution to the fire department. We will all miss his comraderie, extraordinary sense of humor, and for those that knew him well, his secret handshake.

Rest in Peace Chief. You shall not be forgotten.
