William Frederick Arnold 1922-2009
In 1948, Bill Arnold proudly paid his $25 fee to join the newly created Moyers Corners Fire Department. That fee was used to help purchase the first engine. A fire station was also needed, so Bill paid in sweat equity by helping to dig the footers, pour concrete, and put up block and mortar. For the next 40 years, he was the longest serving Charter Member that was qualified as an Interior Firefighter.
Mr. Arnold was very involved in the operations of the MCFD. He held every office and position besided Chief of Department. He also participated in the second Paramedic Class held in Onondaga County, and kept his certification for over 15 years. At the annual field days, Bill was one the head chicken cookers. He was a staple at the annual banquet and clambake. The Arnold legacy lives on with his son Tom, who is currently a firefighter at Station 1.
The Moyers Corners Fire Department would like to express its deepest condolences to the Arnold family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We thank you for your 60 plus years of service to the fire department, and for being part of a special team of neighbors that started it all.
