Highlights of Week 4 in January 2010

Tuesday January 26th. An icy morning commute caused many accidents to start the date. First was on Morgan Road. Battalion 2 [Dembowski] and Car 1 [Wisnowski] arrived and informed units that two patients would need to be packaged. Rescue 3 and Engine 22 handled the patient care and scene safety. Meanwhile on John Glen Boulevard, numerous vehicles were sliding off the road. Battalion 1 [Zaferakis] arrived and indicated that 6 vehicles were off the roadway. Rescue 4, Engine 21, and Engine 11 handled many patient refusals.

Wednesday January 27th, 1630 hrs. MCFD crews were alerted to a motor vehicle collision on Henry Clay Boulevard and Buckley Road involving a Centro Bus. Rescue 3 and Engine 22 arrived with Battalion 1. The driver of the vehicle that collided with the rear of the Centro Bus had significant injuries and needed to be extricated. The roof of the vehicle was entirely removed to ease the patient's egress from the vehicle. NOVA treated the patient and transported him to an area hospital.

Thursday January 28th, 0830 hrs. MCFD Stations were alerted to a motor vehicle collison on Route 57 and Lucan Drive. Dispatch indicated that one of the vehicles was a Liverpool Central School Bus, not occupied with children. Battalion 1 [Zaferakis] arrived first to the head-on collison in the median. Rescue 4 [Watson]  arrived and started patient care on the driver of the SUV. Engine 22 [Hoosock] provided scene safety and assisted Rescue 4 with patient packaging of the driver of the school bus. Injuries were reported as minor. NOVA and GBAC Ambulance transported the patients to area hospitals.

Friday January 29th, 1139 hrs. Moyers Corners daytime crews were alerted to a signal 80 at the intersection of Morgan Road and Grampian Road.  Engine-22 [Lt. Hoosock] arrived first to find two vehicles involved with moderate damage to both vehicles.  One of the vehicles involved also went off the roadway striking a utility pole as well as a National Grid electric box.  Rescue 4 [Lt. Beardsley] arrived next and assisted with the packaging of one injured operator while Engine-22 addressed the hazards from both vehicles.  Medical care of one elderly patient was transferred to NOVA ambulance while the scene was turned over to the Sheriff's office.  All units back in service by 1157 hours.
