New Paramedics at MCFD
Jul 22, 2010 - 06:22 pm
Anyone who has ever taken a NYS emergency medical technician (EMT) class knows that it is no easy task to obtain an EMS certification in this state. It is an even harder task to obtain certification as a NYS Paramedic, however three Moyers Corners firefighters have recently risen to that level. Firefighters Mike Goodwin (station 3), Bryan Easton (station 2), and James O'Connor (station 3) all successfully passed the New York State Paramedic exam in June 2010. These firefighters joined the Faxton St. Luke's paramedic class in Utica in September 2009 and between then and their test in June of this year went through many grueling hours of training and preparation. In addition to being active members of Moyers Corners, working full time jobs, and leading normal lives they also spent over 350 hours in classroom sessions, 220 hours in hospital clinical time, and 200 hours completing ride outs on ambulances. Taking into consideration that there are 8760 hours in a year, that means the above individuals spent almost 10% of the past year in training.
Thanks to their dedication they now join the following Moyers Corners members as advanced medical providers: Kevin Delong (Paramedic), Pat Herrick (Paramedic), Lt. Mike Hoosock (Paramedic), Jeff Paquette (Critical Care), and Justin Rowland (Intermediate). In addition to our newest advanced EMS providers Jeff Kissock (Station 2) also just passed his original certification as a NYS emergency medical technician.
